ABOUT THE RANKING SYSTEM

How points are earned and rankings calculated

Rankings are calculated on a rolling 24-month points window. Athletes accumulate points at all sanctioned competitions, with the highest-level events awarding the most points. Only the best 8 results in the window contribute to the total.

World Championships award the maximum points — 1,200 for gold. Continental championships award up to 500 points. National championships up to 350. Regional events up to 200. Points scale is applied uniformly across all divisions.

Rankings are published weekly on Mondays after all results from the preceding weekend's events have been certified by host federations. Disputes can be raised within 14 days of publication.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When do points expire?
Points expire on a rolling 24-month basis. A point earned in June 2024 expires after the June 2026 ranking publication.
Can I appear in multiple division rankings?
Athletes may only appear in one weight class per discipline. Your registered weight class with your national federation determines your ranking category.
How quickly are results certified?
Host federations have 5 working days to certify results. Rankings update the following Monday after certification is complete.
What is a Provisional ranking?
Athletes in their first year of sanctioned competition are marked (P) until they have 3 certified results. Provisional rankings do not qualify for world championship seeding.
Can I challenge my ranking?
Yes. Disputes must be submitted in writing to your national federation within 14 days of the relevant ranking publication.
Are ranking points awarded for unsanctioned events?
No. Only events holding current federation sanctioning are eligible to award ranking points. Check the Events listing for sanctioned status.
